Description
Intermediate Design Manager - Cut & Carve / Retrofit Central London Projects
£65,000 - £80,000 + Package

A highly regarded London main contractor specialising in complex cut & carve refurbishments and retrofit projects is looking to appoint an Intermediate Design Manager to join their growing team. The business has built an excellent reputation delivering technically challenging commercial refurbishment schemes across Central London, including high-end office refurbishments, structural reconfigurations, and large-scale retrofit developments.

This role is specifically aimed at an already established Assistant or Intermediate Design Manager with around 5-6 years' experience working for a Tier 1 or reputable main contractor. The client is looking for someone who already has strong exposure to managing design processes on complex projects and is now ready to take the next step towards running their own schemes.

Initially, you will work closely alongside a Senior Design Manager on a flagship Central London project through pre-construction and delivery. Following successful completion, the expectation is for this individual to independently lead the design management process on future projects.

The Role
  • Supporting the Senior Design Manager on complex cut & carve and retrofit schemes
  • Managing and coordinating design information from pre-construction through to delivery
  • Driving technical coordination between consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Reviewing design programmes, technical submissions, RFIs, and consultant information
  • Leading design workshops and coordination meetings
  • Managing compliance, design risk, buildability, and change management
  • Working closely with operational and commercial teams throughout delivery
  • Progressing into a standalone Design Manager role on future projects
Requirements
  • 5-6 years' experience within Design Management
  • Currently operating at Assistant or Intermediate Design Manager level
  • Experience working for a Tier 1 or reputable main contractor
  • Strong refurbishment, retrofit, or cut & carve project experience
  • Technically strong with good understanding of complex construction detailing
  • Confident managing consultants and driving design coordination meetings
  • Ambitious and looking to progress within a growing business
What's on Offer
  • £65,000 - £80,000 salary depending on experience
  • Competitive package
  • Clear progression into standalone project leadership
  • Exposure to technically complex Central London projects
  • Stable pipeline of secured work
  • Strong team culture and supportive leadership
An excellent opportunity for an ambitious Intermediate Design Manager looking to accelerate their career within one of London's leading refurbishment and retrofit contractors.
